On June 13, 2012, General McCaffrey was awarded the Martin and Toby Adler Distinguished Service Award in Palm Springs, CA from the College on Problems of Drug Dependence. The award was presented for his courageous voice and critical leadership in mental health/substance abuse parity and in health care reform; actions that will enable life-saving treatment, and new hope, for millions who struggle for with addiction. The award reads “for his consistent outstanding contributions to decreasing drug abuse and addiction in the military and veterans and in their families as well as all of society.”After receiving the award, General McCaffrey delivered a presentation on “Taking Care of America’s Veterans” to The College on Problems of Drug Dependence’s 2012 Plenary Program and Public Policy Forum.
